Planning on doing a full season of Radical racing next year & have decided that I had best invest in a HANS device, I did try one around a year ago & did not get on with it too well. Any suggestions regarding the best make & model to use & which angle you have found to be the most comfortable in use please?

Not gone one yet but asked the same question of a few drivers at Brands this year and 20 degree angle was reckoned to be the one to go for. M or L depending on neck size - see the Tweeks catalogue for this.

Went for a large 30 degree version in the end. I had briefly tried a 30 degree before in medium, but just could not get comfortable with it when pulled tight, as i found it crushed the muscles from the neck to shoulder rendering it too painful to consider using for a 20min race. That's despite my neck size being around the 16" mark & the med being suitable for 15-18" ?

Anyway not tried it in anger yet, so hope it works out ok!

I use a 30 in my Prosport...it doesn't always sit properly with the belts but it's not uncomfortable...just fights with the belts.

The angle looked correct when I first tried it:

aren't there special belts you are supposed to use with them?

Ideally yes, you would use the 2" upper belts that are sold by Schroth.

As long as the belt mounting positions are acceptable you can stick with the standard 3" Radical belts.

The mounting points for a HANS device are "Radially" different than for regular belts. This requires modification to the car to space the shoulder harness attachment points to the HANS spec (which I think was 3" apart but I'd have to check their manual).

I had to have someone modify the car and it wasn't easy:
