Experts,

Running an SR3 at the track today, and had the right rear wheel nut backing off to the point that it was finger tight after just a few laps. Tried cleaning the threads on the hub and the nut. Also tried a different (nearly new) nut. Check the wheel, and no noticable issues with the drive pin holes (or the drive pins, for that matter).

Did notice a little grease on the nut and wheel mating surface, and cleaned that off but didn't have a chance to try it. Back at the track tomorrow and will give it another try.

Did a full check of everything on the corner (bearing, CV joint, all bolts, upright, brake caliper, rotor, pads) and everything seems rock solid.

Any thoughts or trick to try?

Thanks in advance.

Ensure that the threads are completely dry, liberal washing with brake cleaner etc. We found any grease/oil on the threads caused the nuts to come undone

Yep we have had this problem, clean and dry the threads also check your torque settings when the wheels are hot.

Thanks for the help gents. Checked the torque hot, cleaned the threads, and what seemed to make the most difference, we cleaned the mating surface of the nut and the wheel. Even gave it a light "scuff" with some fine emery cloth. A combination of all that solved the problem.

Thanks!

I would agree with all the replies. The most important thing is that the mating surfaces between nut and wheel are dry and free of grease.
