Hi Guys,

I'm looking at a few 2nd hand radicals currently... all clubsports... but one that grabs me has a powertec 1200 engine... would this be ok for the radical clubmans cup in the uk ?? it also has a wing which as far as i know isn't std on clubsports.. but thats an easy bolt off job..

any other things worth knowning ?? or looking out for ??

Mark.

Best advice is give Radical a shout and ask, don't want to fork out your hard earned and find out it isn't eligible

If it has a rear wing, you need to check that the downforce at the front is balanced. My clubsport with a rear wing has far too much downforce at the back. It means that the back end sticks like glue, but it's hard to dial out the understeer. Safe, but not very rewadring to drive!

The problem is you can't just stick a wing on and expect it to work. It took me a good few test sessions and meetings to get my car working properly. The net result was a 2 second lap time improvement with the proper aero (Prosport aero) with my old 1100 engine.

Hi Mark,

I had the wing on my CS (came with it) otherwise everything else standard (no additional downforce at the front for example). I had no adjustability at all with the shocks and rear arb. Whatever I did, the rear stuck like glue and the front understeered. So rather than go down the route that Rob did to make the changes to get it to work, I tried without the wing for a day at CC. It worked very well with some tuning to get a good balanced drive. Won't be as fast as with the wing and properly set up (as Rob has shown), but it is much more interesting to drive than it was!

interesting - thanks guys..

Rob - out of interest what was your best time in the 1100 clubsport vs your journey through to the 1.4 busa you had ??

in reality the power difference is probably 40hp between 1100/1200 and 1300 depending on engine state/tune etc.. so i do reckon a fair bit coudl be achieved by a very well set up car.

This year for example i have spent countless hours of track time and set up changes to improve 2.6 seconds a lap from when i bought the car (striker with std blade engine) and have learnt quite a bit in the process...

Mark

Best time at Combe in with the 1100 was 1.09.6, with the Busa 1.06.1. Basically the same aero package, better brakes give me the last few tenths. Sure it would do a 1.05 around Combe with a better/braver driver.
