1) "Has anyone had a go at checking and setting tappet clearances on the 1100 motor. According to my haynes manual the motor is very sensitive to slight variation and I have no data in the race car application as to when they may start to move or how frequently to check. Because it's not the quickest of jobs I wanted to get some facts first. I've done the job on other engines before just wondered if anyone had had a go?"
2) Also, balancing the carbs on my manometer, amusingly Radical could not supply me a flow figure eg. at tickover to balance them. Allens (who are the Keihen importer) just said 'equal'... any offers appreciated
cheers
Geoff

Adjusting tappets on the 1100 is a doddle, the tapets can be moved aside to change the shims. You don't have to remove cams etc which you have to on most engines. With regard to the gap I tend to go for the larger gap size.
Balancing, who ever you spoke to is right you don't need to worry about flow rates for balancing just make sure they are equal.
