Starting a SR4 1200

Yep, thought it was just me. I let the fuel pump run for 5 secs or so, press the throttle all the way down 3 times and then try to start it. It will probably fire and die. Press throttle again and start and it may run for 2 secs and die. Press throttle again and start and it may now idle lumpily, go anywhere near the throttle and it will die. Repeat this process enough times and it will gradually get to the point where it will allow a small amount of throttle and then your ok - provided you don't let it idle which will probably stall.
There's got to be an easier way, haven't whipped the plugs out yet to have a look at them.
Let me know if you find a solution.
