Just got some new slicks for the SR3. Do they need scubbing in before they will provide max grip (at the correct pressure and temperature of course) or will they perform at maximum efficiency from shiny new? Have heard that new slicks are worth a 1/2 second or so over older slicks that have gone through many heat cycles.

Another question. Does anyone know of a good tyre fitter in the Surrey/Sussex area who knows all about fitting race tyres?

They will work from the outset, however you are supposed to give them a gentle heat cycle before abusing them as this will increase there useable life.

Yes a gentle heat cycle for a couple of laps should help the life later and gently remove the "release wax" from the surface that appears to affect brand new tyres, as seen on most race series including F1 where they try to scrub in the tyres during practice before using them in the race.
