Clubsport Brake Upgrade
Discussion
I think the guys at Radical do an upgrade for this - http://secure2.cyberware.co.uk/~rad-shop/acatalog/...
Thanks all
I think the Radical floating brake upgrade is a bit out of my budget at £ 2400.00 (+ VAT)
Has anyone here used them - are they worth it?
Rob - you quote the following Willwood calipers on your spares page:
4-pot fronts (120-5094), 4-pot rear (120-5093) and 2 pot rear 120-0725
Presumably the 4-pot fronts and 2-pot rears are straight replacements for the original
CS ones - do you not recommend upgrading the rears to 4-pots (vented disks)?
This seems to be the set up on the SR4

imho don't bother with the rears on a clubsport. Four pots for the front, Willwood or Hi-Spec do a willwood copy caliper. However I am sure you'll need to change your front uprights if you are going from a 2-pot to a 4 pot setup due to different lug mounts.
ditto, you should have most of the breaking on the front.Edited by SportsLibre on Saturday 19th January 13:58
Over the winter, I did the floating front upgrade on my prosport and converted my rear to vented+the Radical (HiSpec) brakes.
I previously had the 4-pot Wilwoods all the way around with solid rear discs. I'm racing in the Radical Cup and have always noticed that my car didn't brake as well as other race cars I've raced...but racing against SR3s with the big brakes demonstrated the weakness of my brake setup. They're heavier but could out-brake me.
I know, you're thinking "well you're not braking late enough then"...but using their braking points (from watching their brake lights) would lead to an excursion as the apex sailed by. They uniformly use the big/floating brake front and mostly the Radical but non-floating rears.
I haven't had an opportunity to try them yet but I can already feel the difference in caliper flex (or lack thereof) over the Wilwoods just pushing on the brakes. That having been said, Wilwood has billet and new design calipers with a bridge-bolt which should minimize (or eliminate) caliper flex. One of the discussions on my forum was about the relative piston sizes of the two systems.

I'll post after my first race with them. They were wildly overpriced but it seemed like the biggest weakness on my car.
These are the new rear brakes (note inconsistent anodizing...typical Radical quality control)
Here's the setup on the front. They were a straight bolt-on to the Wilwood 4-piston uprights.
Here's how my front brakes compare (new vs. old):

I have got the wilwood vented 4 pot front and non-vented 4 pot rear and the brakes are excellent. The problem with the wilwoods is that they have a very poor reputation for sticking and are american! The bleed nipples seem to be 4 BA!I think the Radical floating brake upgrade is a bit out of my budget at £ 2400.00 (+ VAT)

Rally Design are currently out of stock on the calipers but are expecting some soon. I was pricing up the cost of servicing versus replacement. The calipers are cheap, being half the price of the radical hi-spec ones.
Bert
Hi-spec do a caliper that is the same dimensions as the Dynalite for £160 each
