ZZR 1100 or ZZR 1200
Discussion
Search is over - I bought a ZZR1200 through ebay. Talking with James at Powertec it sounds like most items are transferable. Looking at the engine from the outside looks the same but I'm sure there are detail changes. Anyway once its rebuilt it's going to be good enough for a number of track days next year. Let you know how we get on. Chris
Hi there. The ZZR1200 went in on Sunday but its a little way off starting.
The breather pipe in the cylinder head has to be positioned about 50mm toward No 1 piston. You have to decide how far to strip the donor engine and at the same time do you want to take out the balancer shaft. The 1100 dry sump fits OK with all the parts transferring. You will have to mod the side of the casting to make room for the little short oil pipe - when you take off the dry sump from the 1100 you will see what I mean. Both the breather pipe and the oil pipe modifications are dead simple, I used a drill and a Dremill (no science in it). If your 1100 used the Dynatech crankshaft trigger and plate you will find it wont fit the 1200 - I am waiting for the guys from Powertech to give me a price for the right one for the engine. Again when stripped you will see why. Do use the 1100 oil pump though, it has greater capacity - if you have to buy a new one they are about £120 but bought new internals for half the price. Everything else fits, pipes, carbs, clutch slave cylinder even the alternator and starter if you have to. When speaking to one of the Powertech guys they mentioned there may just be a difference on how you connect of the plumbing to the Dry Sump so I am just waiting for the reply. Cant wait to start the thing up then I can take it to Powertech to put on the rollers for a tune up. 2008 track days here we come. I will let you know the results from the rollers.
