My CS alternator went during the Birkett race last month. Can anyone advise me what part I need to buy and any recommended suppliers? Fitting looks fairly straightforward but all advice always welcome, cheers Geoff (Rad1cal)

Get a Motorcycle News and look in the back for breakers, its a standard ZZR1100 (C&D models) unit as fited to the bike.

Hi, Have you checked the relay. Mine filled with water and then stops the alternator charging the battery.

My car got drenched a couple of times late this year, so it's a distinct possibility. I am a beginner in terms of mechanical let alone electrical stuff, what do I actually check - do I simply follow all the leads from the alternator until I get to a small black box?

Hi Geoff

There are a couple of ZZR1100 alternators on eBay at the moment - item numbers 150187697643 & 290185292275.

Cheers - Laurence

On mine it was ‘floating’ in the engine bay near the cut-off switch. It’s the only relay on my early CS. Easy test is that it should ‘click’ when you turn the cut-off switch. To replace it’s a ford transit van ignition relay.
