Clubsport Sump Gasket Leak

I can't get an oil tight joint between the motor and the the dry-sump pan on my ZZR-engined Clubsport. The Kawasaki gasket is of the self-vulcanising type and shouldn't need sealant, but leaked when assembled dry. So, using a new gasket, I tried sealing the joint using Hylomar applied to both sides of the gasket - it still leaks.
Any thoughts?
