Any of you Radical racers using a Hans device, if so what angle model did you specify?

Yes and I got a 30 which now that I've lived with it is probably too reclined...I should probably have gotten a 20.

But the hassle was that you have to re-mount the shoulder straps about 3" apart or the HANS is useless.

This involves welding and hole cutting in the chassis and is not an easy job but IMHO it's worth it.

difficult holes to drill, I had to buy an angle drill and a unibit to make the holes to have threaded inserts welded in:

And hire someone to weld them in:

Here's how the 30 fits...it LOOKS right but I think it's just a little too reclined:

Thanks for that info, very interesting!

Not something I had even considered the harness spacing. What are the centres required for the mounting points? I wonder if the newer design of the PR6 means that Radical may of incorperated correct spacings for the Hans to work properly?

Heya Fellows -

First post, but thought I'd add a note. I did something similar to Pete, although I made an "Adapter bar" to avoid having to cut up the chassis. The belts now sit 6" apart (3" inner-to-inner, per the HANS docs), and at roughly the same height they used to.

Two not-so-clear pictures: www.jakelatham.com/radical/projects/HANS_mount/

I also have a 30, and it's just about right, at least for me. I'm about 5'7", and have the seat and pedals as close together as they'll go - I guess Radical didn't design the car for oompa loompas to drive... <g>

Aaah, got it now. The harness mounts have to be close together forming a V from behind you over the shoulders to hold the Hans in place!
