Roughly what does it cost to run a racing Radical SR4? I wouldn't be thinking about doing a whole season, just maybe 2 or 3 races a year and a couple of test days. I've heard it's mega expensive - could anyone break the costs down?

thanks.

No reason why you couldn't run a SR4 on a budget but it will all depend on how competitive you want to be. If you are just having a fun a set of tyre will last most of the season if you go for the slightly harder compound ones. Most consumables can be bought over the counter so you don't need to pay over inflated prices for them. The only major cost is the engine but look after that and it will do a season and look at doing a refreash in the close season. Again if you are not doing the Radical championships you can get your local engine guy to do the work which will save some pennies as well.

If your doing the radical championship and want to be competitive then allow 2k a weekend.

Thanks guys. What are the typical costs of an engine refresh?

£2k a race is too much for me sadly. Currently in the Caterham: race entry is about £450, then I have I suppose a third of a set of tyres at £130. Petrol to be used on track is about £20. Brake pads and other consumables come to about £50. Personal costs such as towing petrol and B&B overnight accomodation are about £200. That lot comes to £850, which to be honest is the most I'd really want to spend racing given that I have no sponsorship and it's all coming out of my own pocket.

Engine refresh assuming theres no real damage approx 1.5 - 2k if you go to radical, or cheaper if you go to a reputable engine builder.
