Anyone else having problems filling up with petrol from a normal garage pump? My SR3 needs to be filled very slowly and the pump is forever clicking off.

Also having problems with the digital gauges - gear indicator used to only read to 4th but now *everything* seems to have gone a bit haywire. Anyone else suffering from the same software glitches?

Yes I have similar problems filling up with a forecourt pump. Strangely though it seems OK filling from a jerry can, no blowback etc.

Also my low fuel indicator comes on very early. If I try filling up the fuel once the indicator light has come on I cannot generally get more than about 15 litres in. I thought the car had a 45 litre tank. This would mean the light coming on with 30 litres still left! Anyone else have this problem?

I did have problems with the gear indicator. Radical replaces the sensor and its wiring back to the loom last time it was there and it seems OK now. Maybe you have the same problem.

My gear indicator has never worked, but never bothered looking at it anyway.

Definitely concur on the filling up at a forecourt problem! Seems best best technique seems to be holding the nozzle slightly shy of the unleaded restrictor and stream it in gently watching the bubbles form in the neck down as far as possible. Presumably it's either the tortuous route of the filler pipe, or the foam filled tank? Agree no problems filling from a jerry can!

my gear indicator has never shown higher than 5th gear from new either, plus I agree with the fuel warning light coming on way to early as well.

I'll be taking the SR3 back to the factory for a service soon and discuss with them prior to that whether they have a fix for the pump fueling. Not exactly a racing style pitstop if it takes ten minutes to squeeze 20 litres in.

Could really do with having some sort of fuel gauge fitted too as I don't really trust the accuracy of the red light warning (especially when all my other readings seem a bit haywire at the moment!). At the moment, I'm keeping a mental note of how far I've travelled since filling up but my old brain could do without the hassle of this.

I pick my car up from the factory tomorrow and will try to talk with them about these issues. Will post here if I get anything worth reporting.

Chatted to one of the mechanics at Radical this morning whilst I was waiting for Paul to finish adding up my bill. He said that the low fuel indicator is triggered by an optical sensor! This is dependent upon how well the baffling/foam in the tank is working. If the fuel is slopping around then the indicator will come on too early. This is quite a common problem and he did not know of a simple fix.

Looks like it will be best to do a track time/fuel consumed calculation and use that as the basis for working out when to refuel.

Thanks for asking about it. How difficult would it be to make a seperate fuel gauge? Any technically minded bods have an answer? I'm thinking it wouldn't be *too* hard but that's a guess.

P.S. Hope your repair bill wasn't too large if the repair wasn't covered under warranty.

I didn't ask about a fuel guage I'm afraid.

No warranty I'm afraid as I bought the car second hand at about a year old. Actually I don't think they give any warranty at all on track track cars anyway. Bill was less than I had expected but I could still have done without it. I have a strong feeling that I would have been better off buying new. At least you know exactly what you are getting. I have ended up spending about £3k just sorting out problems that I think were mainly down to the previous owner. Still, you live and learn...

Andrew,

If you don't mind me asking did you buy it from Radical or did you source it yourself ?
