SR 3 as a roadcar??
Discussion
I did a few thousand road miles in mine. Compared to track use, I hardly think the miles should count at all! It was a 1500 engine and there were no unusual issues at rebuild time.
Clearly it's far too fast for enthusiastic road use, but it's ok in sunny weather if very harsh and noisy. On motorways get used to being stuck in lane as people pull up along side and stay there. However, I did get tired of getting stopped by police (and the producers).

My SR3 was a dream for me (I've just sold it to make way for a Noble). And on the road, it was fantastic! Granted it wasn't anywhere near reaching it's capabilities, and when tracked on the two occassions around Brands Indy it was mind-blowing to say the least.
Yes, it drew a lot of attention - people hanging out of car windows on the motorway became the norm. But I had no hassle from the cops (maybe you should drive around Kent, Danny).
I'm not sure I could go on long trips in it. When I started out in the Radical, I was put in touch with a guy (called Guy, Radicalroadcars.com - anyone know what happened to them?) who went with a group travelling down through France in their SR3's. The furthest I ever went was from Chatham to South Mimms!
When I did purchase the car, I was advised by people that the 1300 SR3 especially would go on for a long time on the road in terms of milage and hourly use. After all, it's not experiencing anywhere near the stress of a racing environment. As for the 1500, I can't comment.

Darren from the Furball 5000 drove for 8 days and 4-5k km in a Radical and didnt complain once Not the kind of car i would have chosen, but definately one of the fastest things up the Alp passes

Gruffy (Darren) gave me a lift in the SR3 a couple of times and I personally just adored it.
I to am considering one as a road use car with a few track days here and there. I wont be driving to work in it everyday but I will go out for an hour or so everyday
I'll be moving to Barcelona sometime next year so Im hoping I can get bits and bobs for it IF I decide to go for one (or if I have enough cash).
It would probably see around 6-10k miles a year.

Driving the 1500 engine on the road is hardly going to cause the degree of wear as racing, and the extra torque over the 1300 is useful. If you were only doing road use I doubt it would need refreshing for years. You're likely to knacker splitters and have some things fall off. If it was road only (what a waste) then I would jack it up a lot too. The biggest cost will always be depreciation?

Whats the 'clinic' ? Not sure I want to get that intimate with a car man.Definately 1500cc.
Not 100% road use.
It will be living with me in Barcelona for about a year or so, and will definately get tracked maybe 5-10x a year.
Looks like I can get spares shipped out to me easily enough if things go arseways but I'd obviously want to get one thats a good runner in the first place.
