We have recently bought a clubsport 1100 (Powertec upgrade engine with flat slides and Dyna ignition) and are experiencing starting problems.
The previous owner has advised us not to touch the accelerator before turning over as it will be difficult to start although other posts here (and Radical) suggest that you depress the accelerator twice and hold at 1/4 to start. .
We are getting a spark at all four plugs but the fuel pump appears to be constantly clicking - is this normal or could it be the answer to our problem?

"clicking" pump is normal. Bad starting is usually down to fueling or ignition. How does it run once you do get it started?

Try to drain the carbs by removing the 4 bottom screws. Sometimes bad fuel causes starting problems, too.

You can remove the airbox and see if a small amount of fuel comes out wenn you press the throttle.

Thanks for the suggestions. We have only had it started once since we collected it on Thursday but it ran fine.
Could I check the timing sequence of the coils - looking from the cockpit (towards the rear of the car)
ours are (from left to right) 1-4-2-3. Just want to make sure I replaced them properly!

Hi Tim

My Clubsport is chassis number 0033 and is on the standard Kawasaki coils, but if it helps, I've just checked my notes on coil connections. They are as follows:
LH coil supplies plugs 2&3. Terminals point left Red upper / Blue lower
RH coil supplies plugs 1&4. Terminals point right Blue-White upper / Red lower

Hope this helps

Laurence

PS Do you fancy doing the Birkett 6 Hour Relay in October?

Thanks all - removal of all plugs and drying them out thoroughly along with turning
the engine over with plugs removed to clear the cylinders of fuel did the trick.
Started first time!!!

We would love to do the Birkett although we are complete novices and would like
to get a few miles under our belts before we step up to that level. Maybe next year?
