Are there any more Clubsport racers out there wanting to join a Clubsport team for the Birkett 6 Hours at Silvertone on 27 October? We need another couple of drivers to get a team of six together. Overview of the event is as follows.
- Venue is Silverstone National (Club) Circuit
- Team comprises 4/6 drivers/cars
- Need to be member of 750MC or one of the invited clubs (long list)
- Classes: Road going up to 1600 and Over 1600, Sports Racers up to 1600 and over 1600, and Pre 1950!
- Each driver to do 3 laps to qualify
- Each driver to declare best Silverstone lap time (to establish team handicap), failing which best lap time at another circuit, failing which a fast lap time for the type of car will be assigned
- Teams are awarded a handicap, meaning a number of laps credited at the start
- Winning team is the one covering max number of laps including laps credited
- Each team must have a team manager to coordinate car change-overs
I'd like to get a definitive list together to make an entry by the middle of next week.
Roll up! roll up!

Hi Laurence, I'm interested in taking part but note I am a novice racer and therefore will be SLOW (and may not make it around lap after lap). If you're all ok with that, then count me in, sounds fun, cheers Geoff

I am a novice too (last raced 2001), but am hoping to get onto some kind of pace! It'll also mean that me and the car are ready to race for 2008.

Hi Bert, Geoff

From what I've seen of the Birkett (See Bobbus's link at foot of page 1 of "Birkett 6 Hours - Clubsport Team" ), the main aim should be putting in consistant laps and staying out of trouble (choose your overtaking moments carefully and keep your eye on your mirrors), so I don't think a lack of pace will be a problem. In any case, the handicapping system should reflect our collective experience (or lack thereof!)

Any other takers? Still need a couple more to make a full team.

Laurence, just had a thought, Van sold a converted clubsport to another chap. He may want to race. I'll phone Van tomorrow and see if we can get in contact with him.

Would it be an idea to have someone like Van for the day to do the race support? I could ask him about that as well.

Gary and I are interested, we share a Clubsport, not sure if you have us on the list already.

Seem to remember there was something in the regs re needing a certain number of signatures on your licence before you could enter, might be worth checking out.

with a brief search I can nonly find the 2006 regs which def do not allow novices. If that's the same for this year, that'll be me out.

Shame

Re: Novice Drivers
The 2007 Driver Entry Form for the Birkett states
"Any driver required to carry a 'Novice Cross' in accordance with J12.3 is NOT ELIGIBLE to enter this race"
I'm not sure how long a lapse between race licences is permissible before a driver effectively becomes a novice again. Anyone any idea?

The potential team so far is
BertBert
Rad1cal (Geoff)
Andy at Tesco (possible free supply of donuts there then! smile )
Mark Abbott in (J-PI's old car)
Shaun (Prawn)
Gary (sharing car with Shaun )
Laurence7 (me)
So we have seven possibles
Please could you each email me with full name, contact tel numbers and home/work email addresses, so we can try to pull it all together.

Bert - There may still be a chance to take part - I'll contact Robin Knight tomorrow and see about signature requirements - as I recall, you only need a total of six signatures, but not all necessarily in the same year and there can be gaps between competing years (this would affect me too).

Hi Darren
If you have National A race licence then I'm sure you qualify.

Hello All

'Team Clubsport' now looks like this

Geoff Wade
Andy Harwood
Mark Abbot
Shaun Mellors
Gary (sharing car with Shaun)
Laurence Larrive

Please, please get your cheques to me ASAP, as 750MC now have only a few team places left.

In addition to the above, others, including DSL2 and some of Mark's mates, have also shown an interest. If there is sufficient interest, it may be possible to get a second team up and running, which I'd be happy to coordinate as long as someone else actually applies for entry. Interested parties please indicate your interest through this forum or email me direct.

Cheers

Laurence

Hi Russell

Will add your name to the "Possible Second Clubsport Team" List

If anyone else is interested, get in quick. You need a minimum of four competitors in a team and places are going fast.

Hi J-P
Yes I’m afraid work has really got in the way this year, so the Birkett is likely to be the inaugural and only outing this year frown A full season next year then smile

Gary
If you (and anyone else who’s interested) let me have names I’ll add ‘em to the Clubsport Second Team list for the Birkett. You’ll need to act fast though folks because time’s running out. Let me know ASAP, then once there are enough for a team (minimum of 4), someone will have to make the entry to 750MC.
