I have just got myself a Clubsport, which after being power seated and run in now requires an oil change.

I have drained the old oil out at the sump plug, removed the existing oil filter, and drained the dry sump at the dry sump plug. However I only seem to have accumulated about 2 litres of oil from the car. I let the car warm up for aprox 30 seconds before draining it. However I suspect I should have let it warm up more.

Tomorrow evening I will jack the front of the car up to see if I can coax any remaining oil from the front of the engine and let it run out from where the filter should be. But I cant see that giving me the additional 4 litres which I would have expected to see in my tray!

Any info/advice/tips on how much oil I should extract from the car before refitting the filter and filling with Silkolene Pro 4 would be appreciated.

Graham.

Hi - I presume that you have the Clubsport with the Kawasaki ZZR1100 with wet sump?
If so, there is a second drain plug towards the front of the sump (in the bottom face).
if you remove this one you should get some more oil out.

Hi Minitici,

I have a ZZR1100 with dry sump set up. I take it this secondary plug will not exist on the dry sump arrangement, any advice appreciated.

Sorry Graham - I did not read your first post fully and did not spot that you had the dry sump
Not sure if the dry sump system has a forward drain plug.
I have only seen the "Muzzy's" dry sump system and it had a removable inspection cover on the sump.

Don't remove the plate on the sump pan as they are a bugger to re seal just remove the blanking plugs on the pan one of them will empty the engine.

Thanks for your replies,

I will go and remove the blanking plugs just now, hopefully that will do the trick!

Dont know much about the zxr1100 engine but my 1100 fiesta x-flow popular plus runs on half 10w40 and half crisp and dry, it always drains from the engine without removing the sump plug! Alternatively you could turn the engine upside down and drain it through the rocker cover filler.
But to be honest it sounds like you don't know much about cars, leave it to the professionals, I recommend R.Gow and Son, Castleheather Engineering, Smerlie by Lybster!!

hi i also have a mk1 fiesta x-flow and find the easiest way to drain the oil on a 1100 is to drill a 10mm diameter hole in the sump and weld it back up after drained, but remember to disconect the battery!!!.Does the mixture of the oil and crisp n dry make it smoke?

Ha Ha, I always find Lidl's own oil is a bit cheaper than crisp and dry. The brand names aren't always the best you know. (R.Gow taught me that!)

Don't you listen to their laddish jibes, Gsinky - they're not worth it!
Take my advise. Having drained all you can from the engine, make sure you fit a good quality oil filter, refit all drain plugs, remove the 710 cap from the top of the engine and pour in new oil. wink
