wouldnt it be a better option to get a radical 1300 for around 3-4k then get the upgrade bits to convert to 1500? at least you know the tops fresh :-) or an ebay jobby for £2500ish and get all the bits yourself?

Probably cheaper to get the £8k one, the 1500 crank is the best part of £2k before you start adding strong rods, head work, cams etc.

Went through all this myself a year or so back - picked up a 1300 carb'd SR3, then decided I wanted to go to the "full-beans" route.

There are a few options on upgrades, Radical being the most expensive (but probably most thorough), but if I remember rightly they want around 4k for 1300-1500 upgrade, and another 3.5k to go from carbs to FI - oh, and those prices were plus VAT.

In the end I managed to find a 1500 FI engine from an SR3 for around 5k (from germany), but then the hidden costs add up - be careful on things like the wiring loom, ECU (and map), particularly if you're going carb to FI. I reckon I needed to spend another 2.5k to get it installed and working (but also had a refresh done on it as well when it was out), and that wasn't using Radical (combination of TTS and Keith Bisp - both of whom know their stuff, but did take a lot longer than simply giving it to Radical).

Is it worth it? I reckon so - the SR3 is simply one of the best cars you can have if you want to take mates round the track (or indeed just down the road), and scare them s***less

Oh, the only bit of good news if you go the 1300 to 1500 upgrade route is that (if you're patient) then occassion some "nutter" (in the nicest possible sense of the word, eh Mydrian?) wants to supercharge a 1300 and buys your old engine off you -as if the 1500 isn't quick enough!! Also managed to sell on the spare header pipes etc, so you can offset some of the cost if lucky. Anyone fancy a spare set of flat slide carbs for busa? How about the carbon fibre air intake box? Worth a try!!

Scott.

....hmmmm..nutter eh?..., I've been called worse I suppose... well its the best thing I ever did. I got 7k for my sealed Powertec 1500 eng that I sold and used that to convert a stock 1300 to a Supercharged conversion and have 300bhp at the rear wheels !!!! Ask Powertec how much a 1500 SR3 is putting out at the wheels.

Words simply cannot describe how quick it is and with such smooth progressive power delivery and pulls from as low as 2.5k .. , plus it runs on good quality pump fuel not the usual methanol + Optimax mix which is used by some for this type of conversion bounce

Unless you are doing the Radical series, if you want SR8 power to weight performance for the same amount of outlay of a 1500 conversion then Supercharging a 1300 is definitely the route to go. If you fancy a chat about what is involved and the exact costs drop me an e-mail.

Remember, for the same outlay you get around an extra 80 - 100 bhp... or maybe more at the WHEELS !!!!!

Sounds like that'd be interesting to watch, any circiuts near the UK?

My 1300 is with Powertec at the moment getting longer holes in atempt to get on terms with the other 1500s in the Combe championship. I'm also going to do the Radical Challenge again as they are opening it up to 1500s, SR3 or Prosport.

Does this mean you got a load of prosport bits you want get rid of?

Magny Cours, would be the nearest I guess. Still got an 06 prosport that I will use to come and play with you guys every now and then ! most of the spares have gone with my other prosport and the new owner is picking her up in the morning (monday) so sorry no spare spares available.
