I was out in My newly rebuilt SR3 last week end and let a work mate drive the car for a few laps. All was going well until I thought he was just possibly showing not enough respect for the way this car can go. As we get to the apex of a 90 deg corner he steps on the gas a little too early and around she comes with no real drama.

When we stopped at the side of the track and tried to restart the car it would not start. So the session was stopped and we were recovered to the pits.

Check over the electrics and all was in place with good volts at the starter. Removed the starter and took it apart. All I can say is that I was able to empty the contents of the starter on the garage floor. It had DISINTERGRATED!

On speaking to Powertech who had just rebuilt the engine they showed concern until I told them of the spin!

It transpires that motorcycled engined cars suffer from starter failure if as the spin is taking place the clutch is not depressed ASAP.

if the engine runs backwards as the car is rolling backwards the starter clutch no longer is going the correct way and as a consequence spins the starter at an infinitesimal speed and it destroys it self because of the over speed.

Another lesson learnt (somebody could write a book on the what not to do's.

£220 lighter now.

Dariot, this is a well known occurence on bike engined cars, clutch in asap. You've obviously had some bad luck, but there really isn't much to fill this book of what to watch out for really!

Thanks andrewD, i'm not that Pi$$ed with it all its just a learning curve. if i could not have afforded a car like this i would not have purchased it...... BUT it is nice not to keep having to spend money. i do take the point that somebody made about the last 10th of the performance causing 9/10 of the damage/ cost.

just one outing without failures would be nice / an achievement
