Hi, just joined the forum and have been looking at some of the previous posts on radicals.

I bought my self a 3 year old version which was on sale on this site. Wow what a fast car.

First day out at Rockingham nearly did the whole day, but 20 minutes from the end of the day the LHS drive shaft snapped. Did the repair my self (about £200 including seals and oils etc)

Next time out was at Santa Pod. With a run what you brung session for Jap cars. This was ok, but really it was to test the works I hade done before I tow the bloody thing all the way to Spa the following week. After 2 poor starts (those m/c clutches are a bast*rd to get right on the biting point waiting for the Christmas tree to go green!) and 2 good runs. The best I did was a 12.46 with an et of 110mph. funnily enough it possibly could have been better with warmer tyres. But every time I tried to smoke them the car just shot up the track as it was too light to stay in one place.

On Monday of this week I was at Spa with some friends and giving passenger rides. It was just brilliant. Nothing got in my way, everything pulled over and best of all I got to monster all of the normal fast cars which used to p*ss past my Z4.

However, it all went wrong when the timing chain broke at La Source hairpin. So it’s off to radical on Thursday to have that sorted. Oh and I have also found a small crack on the underside of the Quaif unit where the lower bracket bolt passes through the diff.

This might be an expensive month for me to say the least. Oh and now "she who must be obeyed" wants me to get an enclosed trailer so that I can keep the car outside of the garage. Apparently the smell of the petrol and oil in getting in to the house via the garage door (directly linked to the house). So Brian James here we come.

If anybody has any comments to make about the cam chain failure I would be interested to hear your comments or experiences. PS the engine was "refreshed" 10 hours ago and a new chain and adjuster were installed. And no I did not overreved the engine etc, etc,.

One word of warning, I doubt very much you'll get the car insured for theft if you store it in on/in a trailer.

its all done. the only stipulations that they make are:

1. when parked and connected to the car it has to be connected to the car with a tow hitch box lock
2. the trailer has to be secured with a an insurance approved wheel clamp

3. the car should be secured to the trailer

there is an additional excess when the car / trailer are parked outside the garage of £250 making a total of £500 and that the trailer has to be secured with a "sold secure padlock and chain" to a solid metal post.

if left at the race track it has to be in a locked compound.

£165.00 for 1 year and £250 excess for £25,000 for car amd £5,000 for trailer and tools.

when i upgrade the trailer and the new trailer cover is up to £10,000 the premium goes up by about £50 so not too bad.
