Is this the proper procedure to check the oil on a Kaw 1100 motor?
1) Run motor until up to temperature.
2) Bring the revs up to 3000 and look at the window.
3) Oil level should be at 3/4 up the window.

Has anyone had this problem?
I start the car and as the temperature and pressure goes up the warning lights go out on the dash. However, the oil pressure never moves from 00 (even when I rev the engine). Also, oil and water temperature never change. If I turn the ignition off and on then I get new (higher) oil and water temperature readings.

Not the way I do it.

This is my procedure.

- Put the car on a quick lift so the chassis is level.
- Start engine and bring up to temp
- Turn engine off and leave for 5 mins
- Check oil level, I keep the viewing glass almost full i.e. you can just see a gap at the top.

Oil pressure on tickover i.e.1200-1500 rpm should be around 20psi or higher when the engine oil is cold.

We have always been advised to check it with the engine running as the level drops quite considerably once you start it.
On ours we always check it at tickover.

Yep! check the oil level with the car on a flat surface when the engine is up to temp and on tickover. Level should be almost at the top of the window.

mmm, just checked the manual and it does say running. Only thought on that is there must be a boat load of oil in the engine when you fill it that way.

I just take the cap of the dry sump tank and look should be 100mm from the top, thats if your have a dry sump engine.
Did fill it to the top once made one hell of a mess when it got warm never again learnt from my mistake.

i check exactly to these procedures, before and during the day yet i still get a good cup full blown out into the catch tank.

i have decided just to keep at the level where i measure and empty the catch after every session.
