I converted my prosport from Kawasaki power to a Hayabusa motor and to my surprise and discomfort, the shifter is backwards now. It's forward for "up" and backward for "down". Is that "normal" or was there some tricky converter for the shfter to "flip" it?

Standard left-hand shifter on my car.

Mine goes the same way and I like it, you can change it round by turning the linkage round where it goes into the gearbox ( I think ) not sure if the USA spec cars had these on !
Works very well though on my supercharged prosport.

Its all about the fulcrum on the gear lever. The early Kawasaki powered clubsports had the forward up shift set up. The fulcrum was on the floor with the rod above it. We bought a modified shifter from radical which has the fulcrum above the rod that goes back to the gearbox. This reverses the change to forward to down shift and back to upshift.
I hope this makes sense!

Thanks! That was exactly the problem and I have a new shift lever on order which will have a pivot point on the "floor" rather than being suspended from above.
