Electric Reverse - Club Sport
Discussion
Hi,
Just taken the electric reverse off the car and it doesn't look too good.
The end is mullered and when I try the motor it spins really slowly.
So the question is!
Has anybody got a spare working unit they want to sell?
Also a description of how it works would be good. I will try to service the
unit that came out. I assume the motor spins up and throws the dog out to locate into the teeth on the engine sprocket.
I have heard stories of these being locked into place as they are unreliable and they were not tested at race meetings? True/False or complete rubbish?
Any information would be useful...
Cheers,
Alistair.

The motor can be reconditioned but it's a pain in the...
Basically the motor is just there to comply with motorsport regs where a race car must be able to reverse under it's own power for 1m for scrutineering. The motor is just about able to do that. Once.
Basically, as you're not racing your CS, it's a question of getting out of the car and pushing when you need to go backwards! I'm not aware of any dedicated CS reverse box for this purpose, but you might be able to get Quaife to adapt one of their units. For lots and lots of money. Unless you really, really want reliable reversing on a CS, I've been advised to pretend that it doesn't even have the capability. In fact I may even take the reverse unit out of the car, it'll never do anything for me and taking it off may offset some of the weight gains of the driver over the xmas period!
