Hello all,

I'm new to this forum but I can see its producing a lot of good info on the Radical. I'm looking for an SR3 at the moment for my local sports and saloon racing championship - 2006.

I could do with some advice on anything in particular regarding racing an SR3, teething probs, maintenance, etc and anything I should be looking out for.

Thanks,

Myd

I have an SR3 - it's actually about to go up for sale if you're interested (one year old, with brand new chassis and bodywork).

For racing, make sure you get a recent car - anything over 2 years old is going to give you problems due to the fact that they literally wear out.

Make sure the engine has been refreshed regularly (every 24 hours or so). Uprated front brakes are worth having, as are the uprated shocks.

Maintenance-wise, make sure you get the oil levels just right at all times, replace the drive shafts when you refresh the engine. Also worth putting a piece of ply under the front splitter - especially if racing at places like Pembrey.

Thanks,

I don't see anything wrong with buying a car older than 2 years provided it has been nut and bolt maintained, with any of the bits that wear out being replaced.

The problem is that if it has been raced for a couple of years, the chassis will be worn out and start cracking, as will the uprights.

I dont know anything as such but bought an Sr4 over the Sr3 due to running costs. If you need a sealed 1500 sr3 engine i understand that they cost circa £11k +vat, ouch.

I could be wrong but i think a 1200 sr4 will be as quick as a 1300 Sr3.

You could buy my Xtr2 to race, these are pretty much bomb proof and much cheaper to run, standard 1300 busa.Check out xtr2.net for info on guys who have raced them.

I like the idear of the plywood front splitter, the westfields is plywood and lasts for ever,£8.50 at B+Q.Radical splitter £150 lasts 5 minuites

Well, couldn't resist it but I have bought an SR3 and expect to pick it up next Monday. This one is a 2003 chassis but it has been totally rebuilt by the previous owner this year and well maintained since so no worries there. Knowing its history certainly makes a difference.

As for a replacement 1500, let's not think that far yet eh.....but I get the picture...still,it doesn't put me off...yet?!

1st race to be soon, always been a rally driver so a big leap of faith into the oval black stuff. I have a bike-engine DARRIAN for sale if anyone is interested?

Well the beast I've acquired is Jeff Davies' Radical SR3 which he has campaigned with success on my local WRDA racing calendar and some rounds of the Britsports. A well maintained car with spares to keep me going for a while.

Very pleased so far. 1st race next weekend at Pembrey (2 day event) with practice on the Friday so yehaaaaaaaaaaaa............

sorry....getting carried away with it all !
