A friend is considering buying a Clubsport for next year, althought he biggest issue is the level of service that you will get from Radical and also the engine builders Powertec?

It wouldn't be used in the pucka series, but rather other sports series, hillclimbs and perhaps the 750MC bikesports.

Has anyone got experience of getting engine rebuilds done? The cost of ordering spare parts?

Thanks for any advice / opinions that you can give!

My own experience of 2 years with an SR3, both track day and racing in the Enduros, and generally I am a happy bunny with the service from both Radical and Powertec. Parts have been dispatched promptly, work done at factory has been good. From time to time I've had the odd minor niggle, eg. brand new oil cooler radiator that leaked, ECU that "wiped itself", but the guys there in my experience seem genuinely keen to resolve these sorts of things fairly. A Radical probably isn't the cheapest thing in the universe to run, but certainly I've found so far they are great fun and the ownership experience is relatively painless. Mail me through profile if you need more specifics.

I own a Clubsport with friend that we use for track days only. I agree that Radical are very helpfull but you might be shocked at some of their prices. Front headlamp cover £98.00 !! If you have to buy Radical only parts, chassis, suspension, bodywork etc be prepared to dig deep!! I can't comment on Powertech but I have heard that an engine refresh or rebuild cost an 'arm and a leg'
I use a local motorsport company for any spanner work that I cannot do. He sources standard engine parts (oil filter gaskets etc) from motor cycle dealers. Other items such as brake pads, hoses, chain etc etc are available from companies like Deamon Tweaks.
If you are not doing a race series that requires a Powertech sealed engine there are plenty of good engine builders who specialise in bike engines.
Our clubsport is a fantastic piece of kit and the BEST car I have ever driven. We have done seven track days this year and the car has not missed a beat.
I hope this helps, be careful what you buy! there are some beaten up old clubsport ex race cars out there.

Thanks for the replies. It's interesting to know that people are using other suppliers and engine builders.

Clubsport prices seem to be constantly dropping, so it'll be interesting to see how much they are come the winter.

I'll try to think of some more specific questions and post them up as we give it more thought!

I'm in a similar position as I've bought a Clubsport for trackday use only. My investigations and contacts have led me to conclude that you will be generally very happy with the service from Radical/Powertec but as others say if you don't *have* to use the factory then there are much cheaper places to get things like engine refreshes or standard parts.

And, having taken my Clubsport on it's first outing yesterday, I'd have to agree that it is a fantastic bit of kit. Dead easy to drive and I haven't even begun to explore it's (or my) limits.

As they always say the proof of the pudding is in the eating....I bought a very expensive (for me anyway!) engine upgrade from Powertec recently and had a problem with it. Where most engine tuners would have walked away from the problem Powertec stood by their engine and have recitifed the issue, even though it had been raced and either party could have argued their case about blame for the fault.

I can only speak from personal experience, but I would recommend them wholeheartedly.

Had the same problem as jonathan with engine upgrade but powertec stood by their work 100% and rectified the engine with no cost to myself whatsoever, Ted is a genuine guy.
