I'm looking to buy a SR3RS and there seems to be a wide range of prices and they don't seem to follow much logic (beyond the engine refresh issue), so can anyone summarise the important things I should be looking for?

For example, is there any real difference between a 2011 v 2013 car? Same chassis? Same electronics?

I have seen some mention of a "high roll hoop" v "low roll hoop" - what is the significance?

Any other reason why I should consider the year of the car a factor, and not just looking at the overall condition (I've seen some newer cars that have had a hard life, but they still seem disproportionately more expensive than an older car that sat around doing little all its life)?

2011 onwards are high roll hoop. Cannot use pre 2011 in Radicals Championship.
2011 -14 all the same I think.
2015 on is RSX.
2015-16 short stroke engine
2017 back to long stroke.
Big difference in price between RS and RSX
rs seems to be £24000 to £35000 for a mint track day car.Not to say there is anything wrong with a 24k car
RSX seems to start around £45k

Thanks, good info (and what I wanted to hear).

Brakes - lots of the cars I see talk about upgraded brakes. How essential are these and what are the costs involved if the car didn't have upgraded brakes?

Upgrades to brakes- never driven one without floating disks. If its for racing you would be good to buy one with. I gather rears are not so important. Trackday, no need in my opinion.

Driveshafts- always worth having the heavy duty ones especially if racing. Mine has non hd for racing but I changed them recently and good for another season .

Rear wing- , some have a steel one which is less aero and heavier.

Data logger- not standard neither are the sensors. not needed for a trackday. really.

Paddles-essential in my opinion. Some older cars still have a stick.

By the way ,I think I have all the info correct, im sure someone will come along if im wrong on anything.

Hi Graham,

To cut a long story short Radical did themselves. They pissed me off to such an extent with constantly chasing for money (when it wasn't due) and then failing to honour agreements on a new car after a certain salesman left, I now don't want to give them another penny of my money. Shame really as the SR3 is a great product and they had proper grids (not 8 cars as this year) a few years back.

Moving up to LMP3 has opened my eyes up to proper race cars and racing, its just unfortunate it costs a fortune.

Hope your well

Andy.

That's a shame Andy. I didn't fall out with Radical, just ran out of funds - a little self inflicted.
But yes I am well thanks!
