Sr3 Bodywork 2006 vs 2015+
Discussion
I've actually done this, so yes it is possible. I updated a 2002 chassis to 2011 spec bodywork about 6 years ago. It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't particularly difficult either. It isn't exactly bolt on, but it didn't require any use of my welder either.
A few notes:
- the bodywork you have is the original SR3 bodywork (or near to it). The newer bodywork you pasted a picture of is the RS bodywork. There has since been an RSX bodywork update as well. I did the original to RS conversion. Can't speak to the RSX conversion.
- the sidepods are the same (more or less) from original to RS (at least, they are the same external dimensions, there have been a few updates in terms of the ducting, etc).
- the tail is more or less the same as well, and doesn't need updating (unless you want to)
- the center section, however, is different, so if you want to change the nose of the car to RS spec, you also need to change the center section as well
- additionally, the cowl is higher, so you either need a new dash panel, or you will have a fairly significant (2-3" if memory serves) gap.
- I changed the front splitter and crush box as well. Not sure if the originals will fit with the new nose, but I would guess not.
- brake ducting is different as well
It's not a small job to do the change, and it isn't cheap. I had bought a car that had front end damage and needed new bits anyway, so I sprung for the newer bodywork.
Hope that helps.
