Gen 2 has the inlet ports paired (i.e. larger gap between the two middle ports compared to the smaller gap between the outer ports). Gen 1 inlet ports are equispaced.
Also if it still has the Gen 2 output shaft, it is longer than the gen 1 so the output shaft sprocket is dished so the sprocket teeth line up with the rear sprocket.I can send you some piccies of the gen 2 if you want?
Gen 1 also has recirculation ports above each of the exhaust ports, the Gen 2 has not got these above the exhaust ports.
Cam covers are slightly different (recirculation ports go through the cam cover to the pair valves on the gen 2), no pair valves in the Gen 1 cam cover
