Miss Bert and I had a fantastic time in the Enduro on Sunday at Snetterton. Whoever organises the weather was clearly smiling on the enduro as it was lovely and dry for the race. The heavens opened afterwards for the Sprint boys.
Utterly fabulous to be back in a Radical, they are so awesome to drive. I really needed to find another 2 secs a lap in the race. But with 4 wet laps in quali as the only time in the car after 18 months off, I was pleased how my times went.
And we weren't last

It is a very different skill.
I was on the SR1 treaded tyres, so not really wets, on a dry slicks set up, as it was all very last minute swapping back from slicks and I was still 6 full turns higher on the back as that's the only way of fitting the slicks under the body on my sr1 without rubbing. so it was interesting. The car was flitting about all over the place towards the end the back straight. Every corner was a moment! The wheels were spinning up in 3rd on full throttle. I didn't want to use the wets as some did with the sr1s as I wanted to test with what I would be using in the sr1 cup should it rain.
Thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt an awful lot! I would love a days wet testing.

Sounds an interesting setup! Were you on a full dry setting then, just with the SR1 "normal" tyres?
In the wet quali I watched Matt Bell only for a couple of corners, and he was doing the super wide line, pretty much all the way round the outside edge of the corners. It was certainly working!

Setup was unintended. Called to collection area and heavens opened. We were struggling with rain lights not working as well. Didnt get time to change it to wet setup. I managed to get the slicks off and sr1 treaded on while my son sorted the lights. Roll bars were still stiff and connected.

The difference between the SR1 Cup control treads and the proper wets is night and day, and the car is completely different. And much of the rain we get in the summer here is more torrential and tropical, where the control tyres just cannot shift nearly enough water. Fortunately, I don't need to use the treaded control tyres over here so we didn't put much effort into a set up, and just burnt the tyres I had on lap rides.
I ended up having to cut away a little bodywork at the rear to get enough clearance for running slicks on mine. But it became clear that the rear bodywork was also not centred very well with clearance on one side being far greater than that of the other, by about 10 mm. Or maybe its just the chassis that's not centred very well.
It must be a british thing, as the Bentley Conti GT3s that the team have here, share similar "hand-built" tolerances and parts have to be fettled to fit, yet the Audi R8 LMS cars are millimetre perfect everytime.
A slight thread hijack but has anyone much experience with SR4 wheels/tyres? - There seems to be number of wheel tyre size options available for SR4 along with 4 bolt and centre lock variants, including a 230/570/13 rear rather than the narrower 205/570/13 that I'm using - Does anyone have any experience with these on SR4s. I assume if they work on an SR4 then in principle they should bolt onto an SR1 too.
With the rubbing I have already experienced with the 205/570/13s Even if the wheel offset is different, I can't see that there's much space in there for a 230. Any ideas?
