Pr6 1585 has mbe ecu ,engine by powertec. Is the ecu locked that it cannot be checked . We cannot get into it to find a problem of engine not running. Car in Ireland.

From what I've heard, Powertec (i.e. RPE nowadays) didn't and don't encrypt ECUs; the later MBE ones (so that should be the case with a PR6's) are CAN and are able to be interrogated and rewritten. It's the older serial ones that are the problem - not that they are locked, just getting hold of the software and finding someone who is prepared to do it.

Ric will hopefully be along sometime - he has firsthand hands-on experience of this.

Thanks guys, the mbe ecu seems to be restricted. Plan to get in touch with rpe and sad on Monday.also a friend who runs an oms 1600 has offered to put a spare ecu into car to see problem. I am presuming rpe protect their input and warranty .the pr6 came out of Scotland and has been laid up for some time. Could the ecu lose programme from non use / no voltage etc

That sounds slightly familiar. Is it / was it 'Gulf Blue'?

Yes, what Trev says is a good summary of my experience. I bought a later MBE ECU from Radical to resolve the issue, which is open and remappable (so they told me - haven't actually done it yet but will be doing so shortly). They can be locked though, and yours might have been by whoever tuned it last.

btw Trev, on a completely different note the ROC site is currently showing up as containing malware on Google Chrome.

Thanks Ric, had spotted it, was fine this morning, suddenly appeared about 3.00pm today; will get it sorted, but may have to be after Dony, off up there tomorrow (meaning in a few hours today!)

The Batteries in the ECU can go flat, causing the car to not start.

Ive always returned them to Radical for replacement batteries to be fitted. If you can get any data reading and it says no RTC - that basically means a dead battery.
