Hi all,

Further to a recent post of mine have started with the weight loss program for my 1500 SR4 ('busa).

with regard to Lithium batteries I have been recommended (by a forum member) to speak to Lanan who have been extremely helpful and has a .9 kilo and a 1.2 kilo battery to offer me one of which has 5200 amps and one of which has 7800 amps - price difference is of 90 Pounds per battery which is not cheap considering I need two.

The batteries are the Super B 5200 and the B 7800

Question is - car being a 1500 - will the 5200 be adequate considering I have the 24V starting system or will i need the 7800??

Other question -

I race on an extremely bumpy track and the Intrax 1 way adjustables won't allow me to adjust rebound alone which in turn means I end up struggling with the bumps and often bouncing myself into the rev-limiter. What suspension do you recommend which wont break the bank completely but will afford me better lap times/control/driveability?

Super thanks in Advance.

A difference of £90 between the two? Ouch! I paid £60 or so for my lithium pack. To give you an idea of what 5200A gives you, that's about 165bhp. With a 20Ah pack, that's 260C, so I think your figures are wrong as that's 3x what the best cells today can make. Mine puts out about 200A at 14v (just shy of 4bhp) and cranks a 1000cc GSXR.

We bought the 5200 and 7800 from Graham at Lanan for our high compression 1440. They work perfectly with our 24v start system.

What do you mean Josh? On a 24V system you used one 5200 and one 7800? Mis-matched so to speak?

Well, being Son of Darcy, I'm guessing that he means exactly what he says.

One 5200 and one 7800. One (it would be the 7800 if I did it) in circuit all the time, running the car and engine systems, and the other (5200 if it were mine) only in circuit for 24v cranking.

Shimples!

Genius thanks smile and now that we're at it - completely different topic - where's the best place to buy lightweight 8 and 10 inch wide wheels x 13 inch in the UK for the SR 4 please? As light as economically feasible!

Well, the easy answer is to speak to Harry (or Jason) at Image Wheels. They ain't that light, they ain't that cheap (unlike my SR8, but that's another story for another day) but they are pretty robust and when you shag one, being 3 piece, they are easy and relatively cheap to repair. If you're indecisive (or used to be but now are not so sure) they're also economically changeable to different widths/offsets by changing the rim halves. You can get lighter, more expensive one piece magnesium wheels if you want light. But as I found out when a brake disc (or should it be break disc) exploded and went through a beautiful BBS magnesium wheel they aren't robust, aren't repairable, go crystaline as soon as look at them and are then only fit for livening up the car club bonfire! eek

Yep, 7800 as the main, 5200 for the starter system.

I said it before I say it again, I am using with great success a Shorai LiFeO4 model LFX36L3-BS12 which cost me US250. I think that is a lot cheaper what you guys are paying and readily available on the net or ebay.
Super robust, light weight and amazing cranking power. I use an additional small 6 V Shorai in series to get 18 V for the starter only. Works like charm, light weight and cheap!
This set up has been working great for over two years.
