Hi Guys,

The Canadian Radical Championship consists of 20 minute sprint races.

Do you guys think I need the gear drive cooler? Does anyone have a decent amount of data for the temp that the rear end runs at? Or rather, what the proper temp is?

If I could take it out it would simplify my sidepod quite a bit......making it easier to get off.

Ditch it or keep it?

Thanks,
Ron

Keep it!

Even with the cooler the GDU casing is almost too hot to touch after 20mins

As far as I know based on temperature recordings on my gear drive the operating temperature should be around 85 degree C. Maximum operating temperature certainly should not exceed 100 degree C. In a 20 min race temperatures most likely will exceed 100 degree C without a cooler. In other words: Keep the oil cooler.

Very good then.

Only reason I ask is because the new mechanics handbook says that it is needed if you are endurance racing or running the car very hard on track days.......

20 minutes is far from an endurance race.

But in she will stay.
