hiya,
looking at car engined trackday cars, i have been doing some reading about the sr5. it seems the logical choice with reasonable spares and low maintanance engines.

Trying to find one for sale is a bit impossible so I had another brainwave!

seeing as there is a huge parts communality between the sr3 and sr5, it seems the logical choice to buy an SR5 chassis from Radical, buy a second hand non-competive SR3 rolling chassis from somebody and simply transfer all the bits biggrin

oh yea.. engine/gearbox and sundries on top, and hey presto, one has an SR5 ! biggrin

any flaws in my cunning plan and anybody got an old SR3 stashed away.. with no engine?

And that old SR3 will be knackered so you'll not be wanting to use the uprights, wishbones etc.

yea, that was my concern what with the life cycles and hours on these parts, but is there any other supplier of certain radical parts or do people simply pay radical prices?

otherwise I could simply ask Radical to build me a rolling chassis SR5 with no bodywork and buy second hand body parts..

What about getting an SR3 and putting a car-engine in? Radical have the installation for the Ford whatever-boost thingy. Also, I think I am right that Neil Cox at Corinium did a Duratec convo on an SR3 many years ago.

Have a chat with Neil. A 250bhp duratec Sr3 would be a blast and go on for ever.

He did and it was still going strong when I Saw it at Spa about 6 weeks ago. Worth having a chat with him as he likes to have a 'project' on the go.

so thats possible? fitting a car engine to an SR3 chassis? i thought it was a specific chassis for the SR5, hence my idea. but if its possible to fit a duratec or honda into 3, then that makes more sense and saves cost of a new 5 chassis

I think the point is that it is possible to fit just about anything that will physically fit, but how much modification and engineering work are you prepared to do / pay for ? It will not be a simple bolt in / out job. Plus sourcing a good engine is the easy part, getting a good gearbox to take the power/torque is ££££££.
