Currently refreshing my Powertech 1500 Hayabusa, new rings, pistons and deglazed bores.
any comments or ideas on what oil to use to ensure the rings bed in
I use Silkolene pro 4 plus fully syn with great results, however I have reservations ensuring the rings would bed in using a fully synthetic double ester oil for the running in period

On the occasions that I've had a non-run in engine from Powerted, he's always asked me to run it in on mineral BIKE oil or if mineral is not available then at worst semi-synthetic BIKE oil. He always stresses the BIKE oil due to the integral gearbox and its adverse effects on the polymer strands of car oil.

Last time I asked and was told >

Brand new RPE 1500s are fully run in on the engine and RR dynos (for several hours in total) and are handed over to the Customer with the full time fully synthetic, which has now reverted back to the Silkolene. I.e. totally ready to go at full beans.

Brand new RPE 1340s are engine dyno, but not fully RR dyno run in and are handed over to the Customer with mineral; last time I was told, Ted liked to see a proper running in (as per the book) for about two hours in Customer hands before doing a full change over to the fully synthetic Silkolene. I.e. ready to go, but a bit of building up before being totally ready to go at full beans.

So on the face of it, the latter, but perhaps or perhaps not necessarily of the same duration as not all new? And irrespective, things are always changing/evolving, so I would recommend checking.

All my tuned Busa's have gone from new build straight to the dyno on Valvoline VR1 20-50 mineral oil then a change to synth afterwards with no ill affects & good performance.

As an aside the new Juno Duratec went straight to the dyno with fully synth on the engine builders instructions.

Gents thanks for your input,I will take the conservative approach and use a mineral oil for the first 2 hours
Its winter in Australia so demand on lubricants is somewhat reduced.
