Just doing an oil change on my 1300 'busa SR3 this evening, and came across one of the oil hoses with a bit of a weep at the fitting. I've removed it and refitted the end, but have found a problem when refitting it. The line in question is the one that connects the head back down to the sump. I think it is labelled "oil line - head drain" in the radical store. The line itself is fine, but it's the fitting in the block that is the problem. A previous owner seems to have installed it with liberal amounts of silicone. Now that I've turned it when removing the hose, and the silicon has broken free, I can see it isn't a tight fit and presumably that's why it was covered in silicon in the first place.

Can anyone tell me how it is supposed to be fitted? Is it threaded into the side of the head or is there a locking ring on the inside or something? Don't want something to fall inside the engine if it is loose, although I'd be surprised if that is how it is fitted.

If you take a look at this picture, it's the blue fitting at the top of the engine with the orange cover over it.

If its an RPE engine there is a lock ring on the inside. easy enough to tighten, just undo the the 6 cam cover bolts, lift the cam cover and nip it up. The cam cover has a rubber seal so you will not need a new gasket

Thanks Simon. I'll take the cover off tomorrow and have a look. It has RPE bits on it but the engine itself is of unknown origin as the car was originally supplied with a 1500.
