Contemplating having a run out in the OSS championship next year if I can find a suitably competitive car, currently looking at a few different manufactures but don't really know that much about the 2ltr sports prototypes.

Hoping for a bit of info regarding the relative merits or otherwise of the usual suspects of Juno / Ligier / Norma & what's likely to be fastest at UK circuits, what can be done to the CN spec Honda motors etc.

Depends what class your looking at?

If its class A , jade and juno and don't discount Chiron chassis.... But as its open it depends on budget and how much your desperate to win some silverware....

If its class B maybe radical SR3 better option than Norma / ligier?

What would be better is buy a clubsport / global for about £8k and see how far up the table you could get.... Hehe

Darren, I raced a ligier at jarama a couple of years ago, it is a good car but was a pain to get the setup right with the front mono shock.
I co owned and raced a juno for 4 years in europe and although a good race car over an endurance distance it was"nt the best car out there.
The best car I think is the Norma or the chiron.
Hope this helps.

Tony.

I have Juno CN at the mo,was a very competative car couple of years back but things are constantly moving on. We only use it for track days now. I believe latest CN cars are moving to Carbon Tub technology so god knows what they are going to cost. We did try a Ligier but found the Juno much easier to set up.New 2012 spec Juno is very competative but I think thats near £100k in full CN spec. Just added SR3 RS 2011 spec so now have both! Juno has been bullet proof reliable which I guess is good for endurance.

Here we go but not really a slicks and wings circuit !

Great thanks Guys.

Craig to be honest a Chiron would be top of my list, the only problem is they are like the proverbial rocking horse st to find!

Tony, funnily enough that mono shock front end was my main worry about the Ligier chassis (and repair costs!) I wondered what it was going to be like on a bumpy circuit having run that style front end on a hillclimb single seater a few years ago. From your experience, I would have good reason to be concerned.....

The car would be self run so no great capacity to bugger about with the setup from circuit to circuit so a finicky car is a bit of a no no. To be fair a big saving grace with the Radical was I hardly changed a thing from circuit to circuit once it was setup & I was happy with it.

The 2012 Juno does look the nuts & a significant improvement on the older cars but as I only want to do short duration races as I get bored easy, spending in excess of 100k on a seldom used car is not for me I'm afraid!

Hi Simon, I see the turbo Busa has worked out pretty well for you!

If I'm going to do it again I'd fancy a bit of a change to something different, although a PR6 with a big motor would probably do ok.

Hi, Drop me a mail with a contact number if you want to chat about it. You could build one for less than 30k inc the car!

Cheers Simon,

To be honest with you I'm not a massive fan of turbo engines.

I do appreciate the power available is fantastic, but I just can't get excited about driving one rightly or wrongly....

No problem, each to their own smile

I must say though it drives like a normal 'cammy' bike engined car. There no lag what so ever and a fair amount of torque, for 1100cc that is. Power is easy, we've seen over 400bhp on the dyno. The challenges have been driveability and reliability. We have now got the power curve very linear and the motor has lasted 10 races at Combe plus several double header rounds of OSS with ZERO problems. The only bug we have is that because we run such a tall final drive 1st gear is more like a 2nd gear. This makes standing starts a challenge, but I think we now have a fix for that.

Big Thanks to RPE, Its great to work with such an enthusiastic and knowledeable team !

More to come next year... lick

Sounds fantastic, especially the reliability considering the experimental nature of the motor capacity.

Bet Ted has loved getting involved with designing & building that motor. Must make a change with it being so far out of the norm compared to the regulation race engines they are normally knocking out all year long.

Blimey, if even the trouble & strife is up for it, feel free to press on regardless/blast the back out of an empty net!

And without any sort of guilt: Sod the inheritance bit, let the beggars earn it themselves (just like we did!) hehe
