Don't forget about torque Jack - that's what tends to make the difference between can/can't cope and presumably the Ecoboost has considerably more of that than the 8?
Edited to add; via Ford's Data something like 270ftlbs (366 Nm) at 1750-4500 rpm (at crank?) before applying the 'Sport Button'?; whereas the 2.7 RX is more like 220ftlbs at about 7.5K according to RPE's Dyno PDF albeit at the wheels.
