You could try here, I bought mine for my Clubbie here and over £200 a set cheaper than the big R for the same tyres!

If you aren't bound to Dunlop by the Regs for Big R's own championships, have you considered Avons?

They supply 205/580 R15 fronts and 265/600 R16 rears in A53 compound for OSS. They cost a little under £980 a set, fitted, balanced and ready to go!

Spoke to a few people and dunlops seem to be the prefered choice

And are those people who have tried both Dunlop and Avon or Big R clones who've only ever used the Dunlop spec tyres?

Quite a few at combe run avons, couple of prosports and all the ex national supersport cars like the nemesis etc. Plus you get the Avon tyres van at every combe round.

But are they faster?

They are on my car.

Which is which is why I sold my new Dunlop wets cheap and gave away the slicks! I think that you will find A53 a good bit stickier than the Dunlop compound and ideally suited to 10-15 lap races.

They work best with less camber than Dunlops but one can easily work out the best settings with the aid of a tyre pyrometer and a morning's testing.

Plus, if you try Avons Simon and go even faster I want full credit plus a 50% share of the cost savings.....................;)

I don't know, but seems to be some peoples preference. Guy Parrs nemesis in its old hands managed to find some 3s with avons and Andrews pretty quick (f'ing quick on lap one).

We stick with dunlops just because that's what radical use currently, like most people i suppose. Although not a like for like comparison, dads nemesis when I drove it with avons was a very good car at Silverstone.

An interesting debate.

I have been thinking of trying Avons on my 4

The "lap of the year" at Combe has to be Doug Hart in his Chiron.A 1m 3s

And his Avons were well past their best

I think the main reason for Dunlops is the car runs well on them, Im on a budget and know nothing about setting the car to run on Avons, looking at price they seem about the same to buy. Thanks for all the help guys, Im a complete newbie to race cars, always been bikes for me

If you need any help with running the car, I can recommend Neil Cox at Corinium in Cirencester. Top chap and runs at Combe a lot.
Bert

[In case anyone is wondering, I would also thoroughly recommend Mark Sutterby at Mansol who is running me n miss bert this year, but he's a long way from Combe and Wales!]

Better than good,I would say exceptional

The fastest under 2 litre n/a lap to date I would think-and by some margin

And I think the Judd that powers it, is wound back this year for reliability
