Hey all,

I'm looking for some advice/assistance with my SR3. My ignition leads have a tendency to shake loose from the spark plugs, especially on bumpy circuits. Being a 2005 SR3 I'm already down on power compared with the mostly-2009+ spec cars here in OZ so don't need it made any worse with dodgy spark! I know the newer cars have a plate covering the leads, is there an off the shelf solution for older cars?

If not I'll just have something made, but thought I'd see what others whom have experienced the same issue have come up with.

Cheers,

Dane

If you have the Red rubber ones give them a GENTLE crimp with some broad nosed pliers to make the metal connector inside a bit oval, that will make them much tighter

RPE do stock a plate that holds the leads in for the K7 model so contact them.

Current ones are a bit chunky (Ask Simon! :-)) but they will do the job and worth it if it means you can complete races/sessions.

In fact just recognised your name.

Speak with Garth @ Radical Australia and I am sure he will happily have one sent over to Australia with his next order.

If those are the ones you've got, the old 'pontefract cake' wobbly straightline ones were always playing up. Cured as soon as we used the later Magnecor ones which as well as making the leads at right angles to the plugs also have a proper supported body that properly fits the well and flip-up pulls for getting them off rather than virtually having to tug the leads on the old ones. The RPE branded plate adds a new level of security but we never had any problems with the later leads before that appeared.

Thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated.

Trev: It's the newer leads that come out at a right angle, complete with ringpulls, but they still seem to be working their way loose unfortunately.

Dan: Thanks mate, I'll ask Garth if he can order one in for me. We were having a chat about it on the weekend and I knew the later cars had one, good to know there is an off the shelf solution from RPE for the K7's. Do you work with Radical? Curious as you said you recognised my name.

Simon: Appreciate the tip, I'll do that. Hopefully that, in conjunction with the plate should solve the issue.

The plate is the solution. Should be fairly simple to make one up yourself.

Yeah I work for RPE!

I remember your engine having a rebuild not too long ago.

Seems strange to me that they use HT leads at all bearing in mind the bike has coil on plug ignition, even with a different ECU surely it is only a case of matching the required impedence to the ignition driver and so if the big R ECU is different to the standard bike set up, I'm sure there are other coil on plugs available with the correct impedence that would be OK?

It took me a couple of goes to find the right ones for my ZZR1100/1200 set up but is easy to do (and is slightly lighter than the normal coil set up biggrin)

Most definitely, though I'll take an off the shelf option if I can get one.

Thanks for the tips Martin, but I don't think I can deviate from Radical specified products for the Australian Cup. I think the plate will be the go as when it's connecting it runs beautifully.
