Has anyone got experience of fitting a late type (2008) fireblade engine into a clubsport? Seems like a good lightweight and powerful engine option but keen to know if anyone else has done it.

Cheers

Why would you?
From experience changing the engine in the car is a very big (and expensive) job and probably only worth it if you go as big as you can with something like the Busa or in my case the ZX14.

Any change will make in ineligible for Radical run events, so why limit yourself?

Fair point. But i guess the benefits would be. Very light/ high revving engine, 180hp in standard tune, so durable. Still allowed to run in bikesports class c. And quite a bit cheaper than a busa.

Just mulling it over......

Speak to Andy Bates at AB Performance. He has done many installs of the blade engine for RGB.

cheers Josh, yes I've spoken to Master Bates. I would be planning to source the engine package from him including sump etc. But I guess the unknown is how the unit would fit in the clubsport chassis and what other complications there would be. For example I know its a pretty small block generally, but I don't know whether the engine would be too tall to fit within the existing bodywork etc,

cheers

What about the ZX12r engine, not quite as good as the ZZR1400 but not far away.

Good call; that certainly will fit and probably as cheap/cheaper than a specific 'Blade motor.

Quite a few mid engined RGB cars around with the 08 blade in, don't think they struggle to fit them in. Andy's Sabre and the BDN both have blade installs running without massive airboxes sticking out of them.

The main issue is one of height on front engined cars as the position of the secondary injectors causes them to stick out of the bodywork of cars like the Fury and Phoenix which have very low bonnet lines.

Andy's a pretty helpful bloke, I'm sure if you took your clubsport up to him he'd give a good judgement call on whether it's going to fit in on not and would be able to help on getting an airbox modified or made up to fit.

Good luck with it.

I was thinking about this last year too....and it isnt a cheap exercise....but a good idea for circuit racing if you need an engine rebuild on your ZZR1100....

the modern RGB cars are properly quick (1m29.3 at cadwell on road tyres is mighty impressive), and a stock CBR with good exhaust and airbox makes a REAL 170hp at wheels...more than a 1299 busa....

Tim Gray Motorsport might be able to help you with the conversion...07709 488643. They have done a lot of work with the Fireblade.
