Hi, according to the PR6 user manual, it says that ,it is NOT recommended to add octane booster to pump fuel? any ideas why??? The pump fuel here in Malta sucks, I believe it closer to 90 than to 95. I cannot find 98 octane race fuel anywhere over here, the lowest I found is 101 octane.I tried it, but have a flat spot when revving at idle. So my options are either to run on the crappy pump fuel, add octane booster to pump fuel or add pump fuel to race fuel, which I guess will defeat the purpose anyway.
Any thoughts guys?

Best ask RPE/Big R Technical Department what course they'd recommend.

Can you not get proper race fuel?

Say Sunoco RMR - which is what Radical used to specify for their UK racing championships - or Shell (whatever it is) which is what they use now.

It is much more expensive, but it's consistent, fresh, clean, water free, and jolly lovely.

Shell CSC (their 100 RON equivalent of RMR) is apparently no longer available in the UK.

Shell also do something called SU99 at twice the price of V-Power. But when pressed it appears that nobody can say how it differs from V-Power. When I queried the charges for carriage and drums I was advised to take my empty drums to the local Shell station and fill them with V-Power at half the price..................

So I've gone back to Sunoco RMR. A dab behind the ears seems to attract the sort of women who find historic racing stimulating.

we have Sunoco and VP here yes. I went to Sunoco guy and he told me he doesn't stock the 98 octane fuel and the vp guy said his is on the way. Tried car on 101 octane (ms109 VP) but I guess a little too much.
Haven't got a reply from Radical yet by e mail, I guess the best thing would be to call them.
Off for a test session this evening before Sunday's hillclimb.
See you guys ;-)

Make sure you check the RON of 'your' VP.

From what I can make out, the RON of Pump VP varies (according to the particular market) from something like 91 to 107 RON!

Sounds a bit like stuff to suit anything from lawn mowers to jet engines to me, all called V-Power.

It's probably a daft question but why 98 RON rather than say 100 RON?

Both Shell CSC (if you can get it) and Sunoco RMR, as well as being full 100 RON, contain the maximum MSA permitted levels of "free oxygen" (2.7%). Thus a stoichiometric mixture will give greater calorific output than one reliant solely on atmospheric oxygen. lick
