What would be the main cause for an oil leak comming from the drive shaft connecting to the Differential Gear drive unit?
Also the drive shaft seems to be quite loose and slides quite a bit in and out?

I have had 3 different Powertec axles in my time which have 'weeped' a little oil either at the gear cover plate area or between the 2 casting faces just behind the rear through bolt mounting point. Both easily fixed.

If you have oil leaking around 'inner cv' joint that enters the diff then either the CV isnt in situ properly or its surrounding seal is damaged/not seated properly. Haver you removed it recently?

Driveshafts do 'slide very minimal' between diff and hub for reasons of mechanical drive, its called 'plunge' and is crucial to have right, dont let this confuse you that something is wrong.

A start would be to degrease and wipe away any traces of oil around the diff, and place some clean paper on the floor to begin your fault finding.

Any photos to help? Also, is the oil pouring out or simply wetting the diff case surface? Does it occurr when the car is stationery or after driving?

Hi i had similar problem on one of our SR3s constantly weep'd oil around RH drive shaft, replaced seal several times and driveshaft, stil leaked. learned to live with it. Our other SR3 never leaks. could just be one of those things. but certainly change seal and check driveshaft where it goes thru seal.

It is just weeping, stationary or while driving. Should the drive shaft end be greased when placed in the gear deive unit or inserted dry? Same question for inserting in the upright at the wheel end?

For leak see white arrow.

Could be photo illusion but there seems a very wide gap between the diff face and the cv joint cup ...!?

It's the active chassis protection. Standard on radicals now.
