It was all going so well smile.

I'd got the tank, pump and bulkhead back in. All the late type suspension and brakes had been fitted. The diff and drive shafts went back in no problem.

But then it was time to visit the refitting of the steering rack in my venerable but lovely Clubsport.

Turning the pinion by hand, it just felt a wee bit lumpy in places - not bad, but not as I would like. Upon removing the thrust bearing (that sits under the rack shaft, opposite the pinion), I discovered the surface of the rack shaft to be patchily scored frown (too much preload on the thrust bearing perhaps?) - not badly, but enough to make me feel uneasy - this is a safety-critical item after all. I could bung it all back together and hope for the best, but that's not me.

Sooooo...

Has anyone got a spare rack shaft, or indeed, a complete rack assembly going begging?
