SR3 1500 Engine Refresh

Chaps,

I need to have my 1500 engine refreshed. It is slightly down on compression, but aside from that it is fine.

The obvious solution, with many advantages, is to whip (!) the engine out and return it to RPE for a refresh. However, before I do that I thought I should canvass your opinions regarding any other engine guys that you would either recommend or recommend against. For the sake of completeness.

So, any thoughts on alternatives? What are the reasons for your suggestions?
