Hi everyone,

I'm looking at buying a SR4 ex-UK and brining it out to NZ to compete with.

There are a few SR3's racing here but I haven't seen any SR4's on track here in NZ, so I'm hoping you guys would help me with a few questions please?

I've talked to our Motorsport body here and understand that I need to check with them first to make sure the particular chassis I end up buying is included in the FIA homologated build list, so that's not such a big deal.

I am keen on any advice from current owners on what to look out for as good and bad things please.

Also, I am very keen on making the car road legal here (no, not as a daily driver; just because:>), so it's likely I'll need to to fit lights and indicators. Will a front body section that doesn't have lights fitted take a light set, or does that require a different front section?

How adjustable is the driving position in the SR4?

Thanks
Rich

I think fronts are common, it's just the lights that are different for road use.

Standard seat is a double unit which can be moved fore and aft. It moves probably 2-3 inches all told.

I don't think the SR4 has any major foibles over an above other Radicals.

Chain drive - simple but needs to be maintained.
I think there is an older style diff unit which is weaker than the current one (which is the same as the PR6).
Make sure the braided fuel line is well away from the live feed to the starter (fires have started this way apparently).
Rear body section is a bit of a pita to get on and off, but no big deal.

I've still got some SR4 bits to sell (including a beautiful refurbed chassis), pm me if you might be interested.

Basically like BertBert says:

All the fronts are the same as far as the lights are concerned; if it's a race car and never had lights, you'll probably have to cut the holes to receive the relevant lights/indicators etc; just like the factory does.

I'm 6'0" and I fitted the SR4, seat not quite right back i.e. without having the balls-ache of repositioning the pedal box.

Depending on your country's regs, the biggest issue could fitting the separate hand brake calipers, whereby from memory, to provide space for the little handbrake calipers, the main rear calipers fit in a different position to the normal race cars i.e. different uprights, possibly calipers and definitely the actual handbrake. Also, does it have a reversing diff?; check out Radical's Online Store to see the difference/pics of same.

All the best for your plans & 2012 generally Rich.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

I'll definitely be looking at cars with a reversing diff, and thanks for the heads up on the handbrake.
So any SR4 built as a race car will not have a handbrake?

Do you know if there are many out there in road use?

Thanks

Correct and it'll be the same with the other two seater, the SR3.

Very few. And notwithstanding that Radical have built far more SR3s than SR4s, that's equally pretty much the case with the former. If you're patient you may be able to get one (either a 3 or a 4), but you may need that of a Saint.
