I took out the side plug in the dry sum plate, and a little oil dribbled out. I took out the filter and more came out. Then I took out the plug at the base of the dry sump reservoir and a lot more came out ( I thought gravity would have had its way with the reservoir oil and it wouold have drained out of the plate side plug) but I don't think I've collected more than 2 or 3 litres. The oil was warm, but not hot, when I started.

Do I have to undo all the various hoses to get the rest out?

Do I have to remove and invert the cylinder with the sight tube?

What about the oil cooler, will this drain with the above plugs out or do I need do something to it?

Also, whilst I am on about oil, there is a slight weep from the aluminium hose connection to the head. I don't want to apply too much pressure for fear of damaging the threads. What do others recomend? Loctite? PTFE tape?

Thanks in advance for replies

To drain oil out of my dry sumped ZZR, I usually undo the drain from the sump, remove the filter and undo the oil tank feed hose to the sump, at the sump end. I sometimes undo the oil cooler hose but not a lot usually comes out of that one. Did you have enough oil in the engine to start with?

Have you got a photo of the connection that is weeping? If it is the oil feed to the head (no.4 cylinder end) then the two socket head screws have an 'O' ring in the head of the screw and between the head and the ally fitting are ally washers. I would replace the O rings and washers with the correct items and not use PTFE tape or loctite on these.

Hope this helps.

The oil was a bit low, but not significantly. The sighting glass was (and still is) about half way up.
Your explanation of the hose fitting to the head suggests I've got something missing from mine. I'll send a photo to your email address - not certain how to post one on here

If you still have oil half way up the sight glass, which plug did you undo to drain the sump. The sump drain is normally next to the oil cooler return fitting on the right hand side of the sump.
