A chap ressurects an age old thread about Image Wheels asking whether they are still available - unlikely in the extreme as it goes way back.

OP simply replies and politely tells him 'No, they've gone' - no link to any others that might be for sale.

Presumably, a Mod has looked in and deleted the whole post.

WTF is that deletion all about? Power Gone Mad?

It was an old thread resurrected to put up a new ebay advert. The Original post SHOULD have been removed.

As long as it is not the owners ad then start a new post no need to resurrect an out of date post hence it's removal.

I couldn't see them.

Can one link to ads on PH itself? Seems strange if that was against the rules.

the rule of posting no. 8 states you will not

Post links to websites or adverts for commercial or personal gain. All advertising on PistonHeads must be through the normal channels.

So in a nut shell no you can't advertise in the forums.

There was no mention of ebay , just an enquiry as to the availability of a set of wheels that had been offered for sale using the forum instead of the classified . The post was several months old and had clearly been done by a member with scant regard for rule 8

Cheers Big Al

Can you please give me a link so I (we) can read the Rules?

So if someone (like an OP) posts up along the lines of "Darn it, I've broken this, anyone know where I could get a replacement one from?" and I happen to have spotted that item advertised somewhere (e.g. under PH Classifieds, Racecar Direct) not something where I'm the Seller, I can't reply via the thread with a link, saying "I spotted this, perhaps what you're looking for?

I was thinking that, but assumed (rightly or wrongly) that there had presumably been another posting (relating to Ebay) between when I had last looked at it and Big Al had deleted the thread?

There are a couple of places where you can click on the link to the R of P's

1) is when you reply to a post, above the text box under the smiley selections (small print)
2) at the bottom on every thread page is the last small print on the right.

If a thread is raised asking for "anyone got one or anyone seen one of these for sale?"

You can reply stating "I have drop me a mail" or yep just seen one here etc with a link (as long as it's not a link to your advert.)

As I stated below all adverts threads are routinely deleted, I deleted about 20 to 30 a week.

If they are missed when first raised, and they show up on radar when someone bumps the threads by posting they will be deleted when seen regardless of the age of the thread.

The thread in question where the op posted my such and such was for sale didn't get picked up when raised, it did get removed when spotted.

Lets suppose for a moment.
There is a guy in Sweden who is after some image wheels ! if anyone knows of any for sale.
If I understand correctly anyone reading this request would be allowed to post a link here so he could see it .
If however I had some for sale myself it would be contrary to rule 8 for me to post such a link as this would be for personal gain.

Cheers Big Al.

Now understand the no advertising rules and they seem fair and clear enough to me.

Some of the Rules are rather more surprising, with for example blokes risking everything in god-forsaken places like Afghanistan etc, this one stuck out like a sore thumb >

16. Promote charity events or recruit for charitable donations.

So like the Forces MX5 Chaps recently in Britcar, one can only do it by getting/persuading PH to run a News Article whereupon a thread can ensue?

I accept that the original thread was 'OP illegal' - from memory it said as much - but the trouble with very belatedly deleting it is that useful information via subsequent postings (often tangential admittedly) can also get chopped in the process; can't remember whether or not that was the case here - I'd check but it's been deleted laugh

Now you're the one that said this >

I didn't see that, nor did Chapiness, you don't mention it in the top quote, so True or False?

As I said you can't post "I have some drop me a mail" you can't post a link of your advert.

Nothing to say you can't send a link via your mail. wink

As we've had so many unscrupulous members in the past saying it's a charidee event when in fact the charidee concerned got very little from the proceeds raised, it was decided that as were were unable to differentiate Good from Bad all charidee/sponsor threads are removed by routine.

That's not to say you cannot ASK Haymarket prior to your post to get approval as some have been allowed. smile
