Guys,
We were out at Combe Mon and had a starter issue.
The starter appeared to spin with a high pitched motor sound and didnt enguage.
When we stripped the 2 cover plates off all of the gears teeth appeared in good order with no teeth missing worn.
The Starter gear was fine and the starter spun up nicely.
Any thoughts?
All the frop down gears were ok .
After putting it all back together it worked fine for approx 10 starts and then just span up again without enguaging.
Cheers for any sujjestions.,

This is the large gear which is the last gear on the bottom of the drop down gears?
It spins one way and locks the other currently.
The car starts when bumping no problems.

No.
We had a drive shaft break in testing on the Thursday but it was ok when we replaced it and started up no problem.
Ran in the morning then just before the quali if just spun the starter with no resistance.

Just found this on another forum (+ Loads on the starter Clutch) I'm going to try the battery connections and make sure theres lots of power to it 1st.

If it goes thunk wheeeee then its the starter... if it just goes wheeee then its the soloniod no switching full power to the starter and its enuf to get it spining but not enuf to get it to work up speed to engage... i would look to the soloniod conections...they take some stick and often corode and need cleaning...

Just because it does in your hand when you test it out of the engine is no guarentee that if will still work once under the strain of trying crank your engine over!
