Previous engine was dry sump so not too sure how much goes in these, also do these fit on the same mounts etc as the dry sump ones? The sump looks taller but that's just going from memory.

Thanks in advance smile

When you say "so not too sure how much goes in these", do you mean a standard ZZR1100? If so, then, from memory, I think the answer is at least half way up the round sighting glass.

The wet-sumped Powertec engines had a modified Kawasaki sump - it was cut and welded to reduce the overall depth of the sump pan (to increase ground clearance) and there were, I think, some mods to overcome oil surge in hard cornering, though I don't recall the details. Perhaps someone else can be more specific?

Oil level sighting and modded lowline sump sound much the same for the Kwack as the Busa - on latter, oil level when engine warm should be just below opaque sight line at top i.e. a little bit of clear should be visible between top of oil and underside of opaque level indicator.

I have a spare cut down wet sump if you want it (engine used to be in an OMS hillclimb car before I got it and put the dry sump pan on)

If you are using a wet sump zzr then make sure that you fit the extra drain hose from the front of the cam carrier to the cover for the ignition pick up.
This extra drain gets the oil back to the sump quicker and stops oil starvation due to all the oil being at the top of the engine.
A slight overfill of oil is also required.

Here it is, does it look like a shortened or standard one? It is a powertec engine so should be shorter to fit I think.

I think the standard Kawasaki takes 3.5L, so it would be similar for this or slightly less perhaps?

Martin I'll get back to you when I know what this one is.

Thanks,

Duncan.

Duncan, I just measured a couple of sumps:
From the face that bolts to the lower engine case to the external base of the sump, the standard one measures 120mm, my OMS shallow sump measures 90mm, yours looks less than 90mm to me.

Hope this helps.

Martin

PS the ZZR1200 manual says 4.2 litres when completely dry, there is no real difference between the 1100s and 1200s internally or size of crank case etc. I would put more than 3.5 litres in.

From memory the Radical manual tells you ensure the glass is fully covered thus slightly over full, but the important part is to check it with the engine running, certainly that is what we used to do with mine.

OK thanks guys, the sump is 80mm so the engine should fit in OK. The other difference that has been highlighted so far is vastly different sized oil cooler fixings and pipe diameters.

Cheers,

Hi folks,

This engine has just been fitted and sits with no clearance between it and the rear diffuser/floor piece, it's not deforming the the floor just sitting level. Is this normal for a wet sump engine, the sump is 80mm tall.

Thanks,

Dunc.

That's exactly how our Powertec low profile wet sump Busa sits
