Is there a "low cost" option for adding data to video without post processing? I've got a camera and recorder installed and I've got a DL1 that's not installed. I want to have speed, revs, brakes, throttle on the video without having to post-process.

There's the video 4 for £1000, but was looking for something cheaper.

Cheers

Hi Graham
It takes about 5 minutes of clicking to get data onto video using the dl1. Even I can do it. Call Race Tech and they can show you.
its license free (at lower res) and good enough to learn from....
Process as follows
1. Convert video to vd4 using RT software
2. Sync start of video with start of video. (one click)
3. Chose a "dashboard" design (or modify one)
4: click create.

I can talk you through it if you can't get hold of RT.

All you need is a dl1 and a camera...

Cheers
Martin

Had a quick try, but the conversion takes a long time. 30 mins of vid takes 50 mins real time to convert (on my lappy). So not going to be a goer on a test day.

Hmmmm. Yes and the create is done in real time too so its not ideal for fast review...... Useful for free to review at the end of the day....

I did a test session with Nigel Greensall, a few months ago, who used - and endorses - the V Box thingy.

It gives, more or less, instant replay with speed; G; and track mapping overlay on the video.

I don't know, off hand, whether you can plug in other data channels but it might be worth asking.

IIRC, it's about a grand but it is jolly lovely.

I use an Aim smartycam, cheaper than vbox and the aim logger can plug into it. Video quality not quite up there with vbox but it isn't as pricey either

Thanks all for the ideas, but still not quite there. I don't really want to spend £1000 on the vbox (tight-wad) and I don't have a smarty cam or aim logger to plug into it, so that's not going to work frown

this may be too simple and not achieve your objective but if the camera is also focussed on the dashboard readout ( as well as the track ) will it give you the info ?

a yorkshireman only knows two words.........."Ow much ???? "

what I think would be helpful is gear, revs, lat and long G. You cant really see the dash from the camera. The dash has shift lights and gear. I've got a DL1 logger I can use, but no cheap way of piping that to the camera in real time.

All I can think to do is to contact someone like AIM (etc), hopefully get put through to someone helpful and tell them what you've got and what you want to achieve.

Relative to AIM, these are the two UK authorised suppliers according to the parent group's website >

Had a look at the aim/smartycam stuff. It's nice, but very expensive.

I think I'm going to try Trackvision. As I can install the DL1 to get data, trackvision can sync the data and video very easily.

I'll report back!
